The end of USAID does not mean the end of American commitment to fighting global poverty and inequality. In the absence of leadership from the US government on global development cooperation, we are organizing and galvanizing our friends, colleagues, and local partners to continue the struggle to advance social justice, human rights, and equitable and sustainable development.

Haki Associates is excited to announce the formation of the American Collaborative Teams (ACT) initiative. ACT is a non-partisan, volunteer collective and global network of democracy and community-led development advocates that work pro-bono to advance social development in partnership with people and local communities. We are looking to create or continue positive concepts and methodologies and are dedicated to identifying new sources for continued support.

ACT is inspired by and seeks to carry the torch of American leadership and collaboration in sustainable development innovations and progress that are at risk of being lost forever. We seek to embrace and reinforce long-standing partnerships, based on fundamental American values of freedom, human rights, equity, and participation. With or without current USG resources, we will ACT.

GOALS:

ACT will:

  1. Uplift: Embrace, capture, document and celebrate decades of creativity and innovation toward solving complex problems of development and global equity;

  2. Serve: Demonstrate Americans are still engaged and committed to international development;

  3. Include: Ensure diverse communities are engaged in development decisions and processes;

  4. Empower: Advance social development outcomes through empowerment of local stakeholders;

  5. Scale: Demonstrate effectiveness of horizontal, locally-led development (not donor- or resource-driven) and develop models that scale for global impact;

  6. Mobilize: Build collective capacity and action for policy advocacy, attracting resources, managing implementation and measuring social and economic development results.

HOW WE WORK:

  • Local organizations, leaders, and international development practitioners form collaborative teams to advance recent, innovative and promising approaches to solving the most critical global issues around poverty and inequality;

  • Thematic cohorts connect, coalesce, and innovate around solutions to common problems;

  • Country and regional cohorts build collective unity to identify opportunities to advance social development initiatives and manage specific work;

  • Youth, students, and early career professionals are embraced, supported and mentored to identify and build new, innovative, forward-thinking ideas and solutions;

  • Networks of collaborators and volunteers expands support for critical social development efforts;

  • Outcomes are shared and scaled globally through and across cohorts to drive public debates on policy reform;

  • Coalitions conduct hard-hitting advocacy with multilateral actors, development finance bodies, private foundations, and bilateral donors to dismantle the global hierarchy driving poverty and inequality.
